The Board of Control for Cricket in India provided a second medical update on India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who injured himself while taking a catch in the third ODI against Australia on Saturday. BCCI said that Iyer had “sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding.”

Iyer had injured himself while taking a running catch to dismiss Australian batsman Alex Carey . Iyer ran back from point and, after taking the catch, hurt his rib while tumbling down to the ground.

In a statement attributed to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, BCCI noted: “The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His (Iyer’s) condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesda
