Boaters and recreationalists around three lake areas in the Southwest are facing potentially dangerous boating conditions as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a lake wind advisory for Lake Mead, Lake Mohave and Lake Havasu.
Why It Matters
The NWS explains on its website that lake wind advisories are issued “for sustained wind speeds, generally 20 to 29 mph, lasting for 1 hour or longer for regions which have a significant user community.”
What To Know
The NWS said that strong winds combined with rough waves across these lakes are expected to produce dangerous conditions for small watercraft.
The agency said north winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour were expected. Gusts up to 40 miles per hour would also be possible, it added.
