Infants at a Broken Arrow childcare center are learning to communicate before they can talk, using American Sign Language as part of their daily routine.

Teaching Babies to Communicate Early

At , teachers introduce simple signs to children as young as six weeks old. The goal is to help babies express their needs and reduce frustration while building early communication skills.

Center Director said sign language helps bridge the gap between what infants need and what adults can understand.

“A lot of children will cry, and we have to guess what could be going on,” Garcia said. “When they’re in the moment of distress, they can sign that rather than cry it out.”
