WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCSC) - The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early-morning shooting that left a woman seriously injured.

Deputies say they responded just after 5:10 a.m. Tuesday to the 500 block of Quail Drive after they received word of a drive-by shooting.

When they got to the scene, deputies found a woman who had been shot.

She was taken to a nearby hospital and is being treated but remains in serious condition, according to deputies.

Early investigations show that a suspect in a vehicle shot at her car while she was traveling down the road toward Walterboro. However, deputies believe the victim was not the intended target and that this was a case of mistaken identity.

Investigators say the suspect may have been driving a dark gray sedan.
