WASHINGTON — As the federal government shutdown continues, higher premiums and an end to tax credits for those insured via the Affordable Care Act (ACA) loom.

New premiums are set to be announced this Saturday, Nov. 1, while representatives in Washington say they are no closer to reaching a deal that would extend subsidies for those insured by the ACA.

"Over 60,000 West Virginians will be impacted if these enhanced subsidies are not extended. And, essentially, every day that we wait will mean more people will lose their health coverage," said West Virginia Center on Budget & Policy Executive Director Kelly Allen.

Those covered by ACA insurance have already begun to receive letters in the mail detailing the costs they will be responsible for to retain coverage, Allen said.
