A familiar face is returning to Toledo City Council, which is under new leadership.
In a special meeting Tuesday, Toledo City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Matt Cherry to fill former council President Carrie Hartman’s seat. Mr. Cherry, a former District 2 councilman, was sworn in Tuesday and will fill the seat until Dec. 31.
He was nominated by Councilman Vanice Williams. No one else was nominated.
Mr. Cherry will sit on council for the remainder of Ms. Hartman’s term. Six new at-large council members will be sworn-in in January, following the November election.
Ms. Williams was selected by her colleagues unanimously to serve as council president.
She will only serve as council president for the remainder of the year, as council is required to choose a new president
