The City of Middletown will reallocate $10,000 in federal funding to offset anticipated cuts to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
The initial plan will offer emergency relief for about 200 households in Middletown.
“Too many families are facing the very real fear of how they will put food on the table in the coming weeks,” Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano said in an Oct. 27 statement. “These funds are already in our possession — and the most responsible use of them is to direct them to the people who need help right now.”
Federal SNAP benefits provide food assistance to working families with low income and to older adults and people with disabilities with low and fixed income, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities .
