ORANGEBURG, S.C. ( WIS /Gray News) – A university student in South Carolina died over the weekend after officials said he collapsed while playing basketball on campus.

According to Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle, 21-year-old Savion Brown died on Sunday.

Fogle said the 911 caller reported Brown’s collapse while freeplaying basketball in a gym on the Claflin University campus.

Fogle said EMS arrived and rendered aid to Brown before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Claflin University confirmed Brown’s death in a statement on Sunday, identifying him as a senior computer science major.

In its statement, Claflin said Brown was a valued member of its community.
