CHICAGO — An 8-year-old Chicago boy is giving back for his birthday by feeding 150 families Saturday in a food drive.

Alex Anning wasn't looking forward to presents or cake for his birthday — but took inspiration from a Chicago kindergartener, Armani Crews, who spent her birthday feeding the homeless.

Anning was moved to tears after seeing a man experiencing homelessness and asked his mom, Kymbria Young, if he could follow in Crews' footsteps.

"When Alex saw someone struggling, he wanted to help," Young said. "His compassion shows that anyone can take action and make a difference at any change."

The event, hosted in partnership with the non-profit Season to Soar, takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Carrie Jacobs Bond Elementary School, located at 7050 S. May St.
