SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Meade School District's school board will discuss an array of items as part of an effort to cut costs for the district in a special meeting Tuesday night.
The school district has a deficit of over $1.2 million. In order to cut costs, a long list of proposals are on Tuesday evening's agenda. Some of the proposed ideas to save costs are the closure of two rural elementary schools: Atall and Hereford.
If Atall and Hereford schools are closed, 20 students would be affected. The district cited the close proximity of the two schools to Central Meade County School as part of their rationale for closing the schools. Two teachers and four paraprofessionals would be eliminated, saving $252,000.
