PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – In an order issued on Monday, a federal judge in Washington blocked the Trump administration from cutting funds for K-12 mental health programs.
The ruling comes after 16 state attorneys general – led by Washington Attorney General Nick Brown – filed a lawsuit in June against the United States Department of Education, alleging the administration unlawfully cut the grant funding, which was approved by Congress. The lawsuit argued that the cuts violate the Administrative Procedure Act.
Joining Washington in the lawsuit are the attorneys general of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.
