CINCINNATI (WXIX) - As the federal shutdown looms, Ohio leaders are trying to find a way to get SNAP recipients the food they need.
Ohio Rep. Latyna Humphrey (D-Columbus) is asking her colleagues and Gov. Mike DeWine to help her pass House Bill 502 , an act that would appropriate funds for SNAP, TANF and WIC when federal funds are not available.
In a letter addressed to Gov. DeWine, Rep. Humphrey says she wants to use the state’s “Rainy Day Fund,” formally titled the Budget Stabilization Fund, to provide temporary and immediate relief to families in Ohio.
“Other states are already demonstrating that swift, compassionate action is possible,” she wrote in the letter.
