An Upper Macungie Township distribution center plans to close before of the year and lay off 70 workers, according to Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry .

The cuts are scheduled to go into effect Dec. 26 at Allen Distribution, 7058 Snowdrift Road. The confirmed number of employees impacted was announced this month i n a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act Notice filed with the state department.

The notice is mandated by U.S. labor law. It requires companies with 100 or more employees to provide 60 days’ advance notification of plant closings and mass layoffs.
