A 79-year-old man is facing a manslaughter charge in the death of a 76-year-old man who died two days after getting in a fight

The charge against a city man arrested in connection with a parking lot fight between two septuagenarians has been upgraded to manslaughter.

Duty counsel Ed Washington appeared in Calgary Court of Justice Tuesday on behalf of Chiu Man Yuen.

Washington asked Justice Ken McLeod to adjourn the upgraded charge to Wednesday, when Yuen is next scheduled to appear on the original aggravated assault charge.

That charge is expected to be withdrawn when Yuen, 79, appears on the more serious allegation.

Crown prosecutor Terry Mazerolle told McLeod the manslaughter allegation is intended to replace the aggravated assault charge.
