The Town of Coaldale and employees locked out for more than seven weeks are restarting talks following an Alberta Labour Relations Board decision forcing the southern Alberta municipality to return to the negotiating table.

The 31 workers, represented by the Alberta Union of Public Employees, have been locked out since Sept. 6.

Coaldale’s former council voted Oct. 8 to acknowledge a new AUPE proposal but wait until after the new council was in place before making any change to the Town’s negotiation mandate. The municipal election took place Oct. 20.

But 10 days before the election, on Oct. 10, the AUPE filed a complaint with the board against the employer, alleging the Town was
