CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Caldwell County K9 is a finalist in the 15th annual American Humane Hero Dog Awards, the organization announced on Monday.

Three-year-old Labrador retriever, Harrison, is among four other dogs being recognized in the nationwide competition. Harrison represents the law enforcement and first responder category.

Harrison joined the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office in March as the first electronics scent detection K9, and is one of only a few certified dogs in North Carolina. He's specially trained to locate hidden electronic devices. His skills are crucial for a wide range of criminal investigations, but Harrison primarily focuses on Intent Crimes Against Children cases. • COURTESY: Doug Dupell • COURTESY: Doug Dupell • COURTESY: Doug Dupell
