CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Federal transportation officials are working to educate the public about the impacts of the ongoing government shutdown.

Tuesday marks the first missed paycheck for air traffic controllers required to still work. Employees at nearly 20 airports across the country are speaking with travelers to explain the risk the shutdown poses to the country's aviation system.

“A lot of people are just worried about how it’s going to affect flying, the holiday travel season,” said one Charlotte-based air traffic controller. “We are going to show up, we are here to serve the public. In the back of your mind, you think how are you going to pay your bills, how are you going to put gas in your car. It’s additional stress that you don’t need.”
