It’s been a while since we’ve featured sweets in our comfort food collection. Since my personal preferences generally tend toward the savory, I sometimes forget that the first taste in our memory was likely the sweet, warm milk we drank in infancy, and the greatest comfort of all is to return to that in some form.

To this end, we can simply heat up a cup of milk with a touch of honey or sugar or sorghum molasses or vanilla, and wander back in our body memory. Or we can bake a batch of cookies and accompany it with this same drink, or another of our choosing.

I came up with these hybrid cookies one day when my three children would come clamoring home from school every afternoon with growling stomachs. We were living in France at the time, and cookies always spoke of visits to their grandm
