EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Some of Michigan State University’s non-revenue sports will have to wait a bit longer for a new arena, as MSU trustees are set to vote on a scaled-back version of plans for a Spartan Gateway district.
In April, the university announced plans to build a $150 million Olympic sports arena, a hotel, private housing, restaurants and office space on the western edge of campus. The 6,000-seat stadium for non-revenue sports including volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling, is no longer part of the plan.
It's a major hit for the gymnastics program, which has seen significant investment over the last several years. As recent as 2018, the program finished 1-7 with zero conference wins. In 2025, MSU finished 29-8 with only one conference loss and was runner-up in the Big
