DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - I like to noodle on a simple Casio once in a while, but it is nothing in comparison to Denfeld’s Kilgen pipe organ with its 37 ranks and six divisions.
“Not one pipe organ is the same as the next, they build them to fit the space they’re going to be in,” said Carol Donahue who has long been a champion of the Denfeld pipe organ.
Carol Donahue and her husband Mike are sweethearts from the Denfeld class of ‘65.
She used to play the instrument for events and is now a caretaker of its history that goes back to 1927 and includes 40 years when Denfeld Auditorium doubled as a community center for the stars.
“Johnny Cash, Johnny Mathis, the Ink Spots, Vice President Nixon, and Ed Sullivan,” said pipe organ restoration booster Joe Vukelich.
