The Vermont Truth and Reconciliation Commission took to Rutland High School on Saturday to hear testimony on how communities have dealt with harm and injustice caused by Vermont laws or systems.
The commission, which began its work in 2023, was established by Act 128. The commission is tasked with initiating the process of dismantling institutional, structural and systemic discrimination in Vermont, establishing a public record of such acts and identifying potential state actions to repair the damage caused and prevent recurrence.
