JASPER COUNTY, Mississippi — A monkey described as "aggressive to humans" escaped after a truck carrying multiple rhesus monkeys from Tulane University crashed and overturned on a highway in Mississippi, according to law enforcement.
Officials warned that anyone who sees the roughly 40-pound monkey should not approach it. The Jasper County Sheriff's Department said the monkeys require personal protective equipment to handle and are aggressive toward humans, and carry hepatitis C, herpes and COVID.
Tulane, a private university in New Orleans, said the monkeys belong to another organization and are not contagious.
