GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Five community organizations in Grand Rapids were each awarded $10,000 in grant money to work on efforts to address gun violence among the city's youth.
“It really gives us the opportunity to talk to people who live on different streets and different communities; 'What are your ideas?'” said City Commissioner Milinda Ysasi.
The 'Safe Alliance for Everyone’ city task force has been asking for community feedback on gun violence in the city for years.
Monday night, several community organizations had the chance to show what they do to help keep guns out of the hands of young people.
Troy Reeves’ group, ADT Logistics, provides job training for at-risk youth.
