AMES, Iowa —
The city of Ames is getting ready to present a plan for its new fire station to the Iowa Board of Regents.
Current Ames Fire Station No. 2 is located at 132 Welch Ave. That's close to campus and where a lot of bars popular with drinking-age college students are located. That means there tends to be crowds in front of the station on busy weekend nights, which could impede emergency calls.
City leaders want to make sure the crews at that station can still respond as quickly as possible to emergencies, but they want it to be able to serve Iowa State University, as well. The university has agreed to allow the city to build a new fire station on its property at 601 State Ave.
During Tuesday's city council meeting, the board will vote on a lease agreement to present for Iowa Boa
