WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Watertown could end up profiting more from collecting trash. In its new refuse collection guidelines, effective December 1, a business can be a city customer.
According to Department of Public Works Superintendent Brian MacCue, the paid service is mostly aimed at smaller businesses as an alternative to paying for a dumpster.
“It very much has a chance to increase our revenue, and that’s our main hope,” he said.
That’s not the only change. You may have started noticing new ‘City of Watertown Refuse’ stickers on trash bins throughout the city. Well, they’re about to become mandatory.
“It’s a visibility thing for the drivers so that the drivers know when and where to stop,” said MacCue.
Starting in December, the new stickers have to be placed on all trash bin
