AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Richmond County commissioners reviewed updates on SPLOST 9, a special 1% sales tax proposal that has grown to over $434 million after adding $14 million for boathouse renovations and $5 million for juvenile court improvements.

Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley requested $70 million for jail expansion, telling commissioners the detention center has reached a breaking point with 1,350 inmates.

Brantley also asked for $18 million for vehicles, emphasizing that the public safety requests are necessities rather than wants.
