WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Williamsburg County Fire Department said an accident caused a major propane leak following a vehicle pursuit Tuesday afternoon.

Crews responded to a vehicle accident on Milliken Road in Kingstree from a vehicle chase with law enforcement around 1:30 p.m. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the vehicle had driven through a fence and struck the supply lines from an 18,000-gallon propane tank. The tank supplied an industrial manufacturing facility, according to Cpt. William Horton.

The first unit on scene reported no occupants in the vehicle and noticed the propane gas was rapidly leaking from the lines. Firefighters put on protective gear with gas monitors to investigate the leak while awaiting the arrival of the gas company representative.
