NATIONWIDE — HALF OF THE 50 U.S. STATES HAVE JOINED A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE FOR SUSPENDING THE SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP), which helps feed millions of financially-struggling families around the country.
New York Attorney General Letitia James joined her counterparts in 24 other states and the District of Columbia in the suit against the suspension during the government shutdown of the food assistance program. The plaintiffs argue that the administration’s refusal to issue November SNAP payments to more than 40 million Americans – including nearly three million New Yorkers – violates federal law and could leave countless families hungry.
