ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Wayne County program is expanding its reach to help more students and families experiencing homelessness.

According to the latest state data from the 2023–2024 school year, nearly 400 students in Wayne County were identified as homeless. That number has inspired local advocates to take new steps to keep families housed and children in school.

Family Promise of Wayne County, a grassroots nonprofit, runs a program called “Roof Over Their Heads," or “ROTH.” The initiative focuses on preventing homelessness by helping families remain in stable housing before they lose it.
