MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Ridglan Farms will be closing the portion of its facility that breeds beagles to sell them for research, the Animal Activist Legal Defense Project announced on Tuesday.
This comes after the special prosecutor was seeking to charge the breeding facility with felony animal cruelty.
According to project activists, Ridglan is the second large breeder of beagles for experimentation to close in less than five years. The Blue Mounds research facility has faced years of scrutiny over animal welfare concerns.
President of Dane4Dogs Rebekah Robinson expressed excitement following the news of the closure.
