BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -Bowling Green Public Works will begin its annual free leaf pickup program on Nov. 17, marking a later start than previous years.
The city will conduct 30 days of pickup using industrial leaf vacuums nicknamed Suck Norris, Leafal Weapon, Keanu Leaves, and more through a naming contest. The program aims to preserve the integrity of the existing stormwater system.
“Bowling Green is blessed to have karst in our geology, so basically the cave system, and unfortunately, when the leaves come down off the trees, they can clog up our drains,” said Andy Souza, director of Bowling Green Public Works. “If you ever get a chance to look into our drains, they’re usually 8-inch pipes that go straight down into a cave, so obviously leaves can cause some significant problems, an
