PITTSBURGH, Pa. (BLACK AND GOLD NATION) - Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin believed his defense could do "historic" things before the season. The unit has been historic, but in a bad way.
Pittsburgh is currently ranked 30th in total defense, which would be its worst ranking in franchise history if the season ended today.
"We make no excuses about how or why we fall short," Tomlin said. "Our job is to perform and perform at a high level and we haven't done that."
The highest-paid defense in the NFL has allowed 30 or more points in four games this year. In Sunday's loss to Green Bay, the defense melted down by giving up 28 points in the second half.
