KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Missouri Senator Josh Hawley is gaining traction on a bill to fund SNAP benefits as the Trump administration says it cannot use emergency funds for the program, which is set to run out of money Saturday.

Hawley’s bill has the support of 10 rank-and-file Republicans and is co-sponsored by Vermont Democrat Peter Welch. It would fund the program until the shutdown is over.

Although Republican leadership has criticized Hawley, he said he’s confident it would pass if put to a vote on the floor because it’s bigger than politics.
