PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Scientists are expecting big waves along the coast next week, with king tides expected to begin on Nov. 4 and last through Nov. 7. But as storm chasers try to plan where they might spot the biggest wave, some coastal communities face increasing flood risk.
"Whether or not we have water levels that cause coastal flooding or erosion problems for humans or ecosystems is gonna depend on not just the fact that it's king tides, but also what the weather is doing," said Peter Ruggiero, a professor of coastal geomorphology and coastal hazards at Oregon State University.
"We just came through an atmospheric river this past weekend that was pretty intense," he said. "If we have a storm similar to that, coinciding with one of these upcoming king tide cycles, then we have the
