MESQUITE, Texas — As the federal government shutdown stretches on , one North Texas nonprofit is stepping up to help workers who are finding themselves without paychecks.
Sharing Life in Mesquite has expanded its “E-Pantry” program to serve furloughed federal employees and others affected by the shutdown. It launched on Monday.
“On any given day, we will have about 350 families,” said Jacob Taylor, the organization’s chief operations officer. “We’re expecting a significant increase in demand for the food that’s going out the door.”
The nonprofit, which has supported the community through recessions and the COVID-19 pandemic , is now preparing for another surge in need. Taylor said the group saw a similar pattern during the 2018 government shutdown, when many people sought food assis
