KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — 10News reached out to multiple lawmakers — asking what they were up to during the government shutdown and if they were being paid. Here's what they had to say.
Sen. Bill Hagerty's office sent WBIR a statement. It can be read below.
"In the beginning of October, Senator Hagerty requested that the Financial Clerk of the Senate withhold his salary check, therefore he has not been receiving a paycheck.
The bigger concern for Senator Hagerty is that his staff, who have been working nonstop since the shutdown began, along with air traffic controllers, TSA agents, federal law enforcement, and other Tennesseans, are working without pay.
