CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey is launching a statewide initiative supporting two West Virginia food banks to support those in need.

“We take care of our neighbors,” Morrisey said. “We roll up our sleeves. We get things done.”

This comes after news that federal SNAP benefits will not be paid in November due to the government shutdown --affecting more than 250,000 West Virginians.

Morrisey said the state can’t add to the SNAP fund.

“We’re not going to let our people go hungry,” Morrisey said. “I know that much.”

He said the state will match any donation you make to Facing Hunger Food Bank or Mountaineer Food Bank, totaling up to $13 million and potentially delivering $26 million to food banks.
