SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) — Community members in Salina have created a 24-hour pantry to fight food insecurity.
The Salina Sharing Fridge and Freezer launched Tuesday outside of Bravo Sliders-N-Bites.
Organizers with the Kansas Impact Coalition will stock the fridges with drinks, fresh produce and frozen food twice a week.
"A lot of those places require just a little bit more paperwork, and they do have set business hours," lead organizer Zi Jensen said. "So something that's different about us is we're always open 24/7, and there's no requirement for any kind of paperwork or anything like that."
On Saturday, more than 40 million Americans will lose access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits amid the government shutdown.
