The Australian National Auditor Office (ANAO) has announced an audit of the Albanese government’s $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund.
The probe comes amid criticism the fund has fallen drastically behind schedule to deliver the 40,000 social and affordable homes promised by 2028.
Auditor-General Caralee McLeish recently revealed the HAFF disbursed just $13.6 million in 2024-25 – the equivalent of eight Sydney median-priced homes.
Shadow housing minister Andrew Bragg has declared the fund as “one of the biggest public policy disasters” of his lifetime.
Mr Bragg said the government’s housing body was in “chaos” and accused Labor of using the fund to funnel taxpayer money to industry superannuation funds.
