ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — Typically, in November the Christian Mission Center in Enterprise is scrambling to prepare for their Thanksgiving food giveaway, but now they are scrambling to keep shelves full as the government shut down is freezing SNAP benefits recipients.
"There's a lot of families 15 percent of Alabamians depend on the EBT benefits and they are not going to get that, so here we are going into holiday months they are going to be panicked," Christian Mission Center Executive Director Amanda Simmons said.
The panic will spark an influx of people turning to local food pantries like the Christian Mission Center.
Last month, the pantry gave out more than 6,000 pounds of groceries to families. Each week they give out three hot meals a day consisting of about 500 meals along with
