VANCE, Ala. (WIAT) — The end of the decades-long working relationship between Averitt Express and the Mercedes-Benz plant outside Tuscaloosa will result in nearly 200 employees being fired.
In a WARN List item from the Alabama Department of Commerce, Averitt announced that it would be laying off 193 employees. This comes as the company and Mercedes-Benz U.S. International were unable to work out a contract and will be going their separate ways.
Averitt, a supply chain and freight transportation company, had reportedly been in business with MBUSI since the plant first opened in 1996.
