People across the Northern Territory's Top End woke to tremors in the early hours of this morning from a magnitude-6.4 earthquake.
The earthquake, which had a depth of 135 kilometres, occurred just after midnight in the Banda Sea near Timor-Leste, about 600km from Darwin.
Data from Geoscience Australia show the earthquake was mostly felt in Darwin City and the northern suburbs; however, there were also reports across the rural area, and as far as Kununurra, Western Australia.
Shortly after the earthquake, the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed there was no tsunami threat to the Australian mainland, islands or territories.
