MIDDLETON, Wis. (WMTV) - A local student is working to make a global difference.

Middleton High School student and cross-country runner Nethan Kaluarachchi visited WMTV on Tuesday.

He started a youth program called Next Mile, a fitness focused initiative that aims to provide accessible and inclusive running programs for children in the Galle district of Sri Lanka.

The program’s mission is to help Sri Lankan youth who struggle with obesity and mental health.

His initiative is collecting donations of new or lightly used gym shoes, water bottles and clothing.
