BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The new Mormon temple, expected to be built in southwest Bakersfield, is still in its planning stages two years after its announcement, according to the Bakersfield Planning Division.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the project site -- the northwest of Stockdale Highway and Jewetta Avenue -- in July of 2023.

Since then, several public meetings have been held regarding the temple project.

Assistant Planning Director Jennie Eng told 17 News the city of Bakersfield held a “scoping meeting” Oct. 15 and invited the public and property owners within 300 feet of the site.
