Portage la Prairie is overhauling its parking rules, with significant changes coming to garbage day collection and downtown enforcement.
City council gave second and third reading to a new traffic bylaw at its Monday, Oct. 27 meeting, finalizing a series of updates that council members say reflect feedback from residents and businesses.
One of the most significant changes affects residential garbage pickup. Street parking will now be banned on the business day prior to garbage collection, a swap from the previous rule which banned parking the day after.
Mayor Sharilyn Knox acknowledged the adjustments residents will have to prepare for.
“This is a real big change for our city as a whole…it will take some time for people to get used to,” said Knox.
