The St. John’s College Green Eagles are peaking at the right time in senior boys volleyball.
Hosting Brantford Collegiate Institute on Tuesday in the final game of the Athletic Association of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk regular season, the Eagles were 20-25, 27-26, 25-18, 16-25 and 17-16 winners over the Mustangs.
“That’s the best I’ve seen them play,” SJC coach Jason Devine said. “I liked pretty much everything they did.”
The win left St. John’s and BCI with identical 7-5 records. However, the Eagles finish ahead of the Mustangs in the standings because in head-to-head action, SJC was 2-0 against BCI.
“It was a big game to determine where we finished,” said Devine, whose team winds up third in the seven-team league. “That means we play PJ instead of Assumption in the (quarter-finals)
