Parts of the Queensland coastline are bracing for massive hailstones and wind gusts following days of intense thunderstorms in eastern Australia in the lead-up to the start of the cyclone season on November 1.

Sky News Weather Meteorologist Tamsin Green said a trough was continuing to “feed in moisture and instability” over the Queensland coastline, bringing a renewed risk of storms.

“We could be seeing storms, potentially severe storms, develop particularly between Ingham and Bundaberg,” Green said.

“We could be seeing again a risk of large hail over 2cm, damaging wind gusts over 80km/h as well.”

The forecaster said the treacherous conditions would develop throughout the day on Wednesday, with the risk of severe weather extending into Wednesday evening.
