INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WAND) - Two endangered tortoises stolen from the Indianapolis Zoo earlier this month have been found safe, according to the Indiana State Police.
Police said that the missing Egyptian and Northern Spider tortoises were found "safe and uninjured" Tuesday afternoon in Falls Park, located near the City of Pendleton.
According to Indiana State Police, the Pendleton Police Department received a call around 4 p.m. from park visitors who came across an unattended cardboard box on a sidewalk behind the park's museum.
The visitors found the two tortoises inside the box and immediately called police, who took them into their care soon after.
Police said the tortoises were positively identified as the ones missing by Zoo officials.
