Police in New Zealand have solved the crime of the Cretaceous - recovering a large model dinosaur stolen from a travelling exhibition earlier this month. The replica reptile, based on a theropod such as an Oviraptor, was reported missing on 17 October by staff at The Amazing Dinosaur Discovery. The touring show, which features 30 lifelike dinosaur models, had been on display near New Plymouth Raceway on North Island. "HELP - our baby dinosaur's mum has been stolen," organisers wrote in an appeal for information. The exhibition had originally been scheduled to remain in the area on 18 and 19 October but was extended for an additional week due to strong public interest. The stolen model, however, had been on display for just one day before disappearing from its mock nest. Following information from the public, officers executed a search warrant on 23 October and successfully recovered the missing model. "New Plymouth Police tracked down the dinosaur which was stolen from the racecourse last week, and she has been reunited with her family from the Amazing Dinosaur Discovery display," Manawatu, Taranaki, Whanganui-Ruapehu Police officials wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. "Jurassic justice has been served." A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the theft.
