TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- We don't yet know the full extent of the devastation expected in Jamaica.
Video showed flood waters touching power lines and meeting the roof of a house. First responders worked to rescue a person who was trapped inside another home.
It's jolting for people with loved ones on the island.
"My area is getting in bad. That's in Westmoreland. And I can't hear from my mom, my siblings, no body," said one woman.
"I spoke to my dad today around 12 o'clock, and he was just hunkering down," said Thristene Edwards Francisco.
Jamaicans in Tampa are anxiously waiting to hear from their loved ones. They said they can't wrap their minds around a category 5 storm, reaching wind speeds of 185 miles per hour.
